Stephen A. Andon is the Chief Executive Officer of TIC Gums, Inc., a stabilizer and hydrocolloid manufacturer headquartered in Belcamp, Maryland. He joined his father’s business in 1973 as a sales representative and became president upon his father’s retirement.
During Mr. Andon’s tenure as president the company experienced tremendous growth in size and product offerings yet held tightly to the tenets of service its customers’ came to know and expect. In fact, during this time, TIC Gums was first voted the number one preferred supplier of hydrocolloids to the US food industry by the readers of Stagnito Communications magazines. The company has now received this honor for nine consecutive years and has garnered similar recognition from other groups.
Under Mr. Andon’s guidance, the company invested heavily in new technology for both manufacturing and research purposes in order to maintain its leading position in the industry. Most recently, the company patented modified gum acacia, a superior emulsifier for flavor and beverage emulsions, and marketed it under the TICAmulsion® brand name. At the same time, the company’s applications lab was expanded to include pilot plants for dairy and salad dressing manufacture for real-world end-use testing and scale up projects.
Mr. Andon is an active member of several professional associations including the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), Flavor and Extract Manufacturers Association (FEMA), and National Association of Flavors and Food-Ingredient Systems (NAFFS)
