I am not a food science major, may I still apply?
Yes, we strongly encourage non-food science majors to apply!
I am a senior and will be graduating before summer, may I still apply?
If you are graduating before the program begins, it is unlikely that you would be admitted, as preference is given to sophomores and juniors.
Is housing provided?
See stipend page.
Is a meal plan provided?
Meals are also the responsibility of each scholar. Summer meal plans are available for scholars living in Ithaca. You can find meal plan information at http://campuslife.cornell.edu/dining/dining_contract.asp.
If my faculty mentor's lab is in Geneva, do I have to live in Geneva?
No, you may live in Ithaca if you prefer. There is a shuttle that leaves Ithaca campus daily at 7:00 am, arrives in Geneva at 8:00 am, and departs Geneva at 4:45 pm, returning to Ithaca at 6:00 pm.
Do I need to bring my computer?
No, the lab you work in will most likely have a computer that you will be able to use (you should check with you faculty mentor to make sure). You may bring a laptop with you; however, it is not necessary. Internet access is available in both Ithaca and Geneva.
Do I need my car?
This is entirely up to you. There is a fee for parking on Ithaca campus and space is limited. Parking at the Geneva Food Science building is free. There is a public transportation system, T-Cat bus line, in Ithaca which picks up and drops off all over the city and Cornell campus. For information about bus passes and routes visit http://www.tcatbus.com.
Should I contact my faculty mentor before I arrive?
Yes, you will be given your faculty mentor's contact information prior to the beginning of the program.
How will I be paid?
See stipend page for information. Accepted applicants will receive specific stipend information before the beginning of the program.
I am not a US citizen, may I still apply?
Yes, we accepted applications from international students.
Is there a minimum GPA requirement to apply?
No, admission decisions are based on the entire application.
