The faculty members who comprise the Cornell Institute of Food Science and the faculty members of the Department of Food Science at the University of Massachusetts, are proud to request applications for the Food Science Summer Scholars Program. Scholars will spend 10 weeks at the Cornell or UMass campus working on research projects under the mentorship of faculty members, in addition to participating in a variety of other career-related activities (to view a schedule of events from 2009, click here). The goal of the research is to train participants to plan and conduct experiments, to evaluate data resulting from experiments, and to communicate research results through oral and written reports.
Applications are invited from undergraduate students with preference being given to current sophomores and juniors majoring in a physical or biological science with an interest in pursuing graduate studies in one of the sub disciplines of food science (i.e. food microbiology, food chemistry, food engineering, dairy science, food processing waste technology, international food science, sensory science, enology). Applications from qualified members of underrepresented minorities are also strongly encouraged.
