- New bus stop - Just down Tower Road from Stocking Hall, across from the traffic booth, a new TCAT bus stop is being constructed. This new stop will replace the current bus stop that is in front of the old entrance to the Dairy Bar. The new bus stop is expected to be in use in early March.
- Digging around Stocking - outside work continues around the FSL and now between Wing Hall and Stocking Hall. Pike, the construction company, has been digging down to pipes that are covered by asbestos. Once the pipes are exposed, Target, the abatement contractor (the people in the white suits) will remove the asbestos pipe coverings. All abatement work follows the New York State Department of Labor protocols!
- Internal Work - Target has removed all the light ballasts and bulbs from the runway for proper disposal. They have also removed the asbestos from the third floor above the Dairy Plant and are working their way through each floor. The electrical demolition has been completed in the runway.

- Runway abatement starts on Monday, February 7. They will first focus on removing light bulbs and ballasts and then quickly (by mid week) switch to taking out the asbestos. Barriers to the runway should go up on Monday.
- This week, the blacktop, granite curbs, and parking meters were removed from the Dairy Bar parking lot.
- The large cooler outside room 178 now belongs to the Candor Food Bank.
- The newest of the lab benches that were located in the runway were relocated to a school district in the area.

February 4th is the day we have all been anxiously awaiting with mixed emotion. This is the last day we will be able to walk through the Stocking Hall runway, Dairy Plant, and Dairy Bar. The runway will be sealed off from Stocking Hall tower, hopefully with a plexiglass window built into the barricade between Stocking Hall lobby and the runway, giving us the opportunity to view the construction process. Contractor trailers have started setting up in the staging area (just South of the Animal Science Livestock Pavilion) and fencing will be going up all around Stocking. Demolition is beginning.

A number of representatives attended a Stocking Hall Rehabilitation and Addition Orientation meeting on December 2, 2010. A few highlights from the 44 page meeting agenda include:
- Dennis Miller kicked off the meeting with an overview of the Department of Food Science and how important Stocking Hall is for the department, CALS, and New York. It was the first opportunity for the Pike representative (general contractor of the project) to learn about the department.
- Page 12 of the agenda marks that the Stocking Hall renovation project is expected to achieve the Gold Certification for the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)! LEED is an international recognized green building certification system. Originally, the project was expected to receive a Silver Certificate.
- Although a project start date has not been set at this time, we do know that Phase 1 (demolition and new addition) will be completed by April 1, 2013 and that Phase 2 (renovation of Stocking Tower) will be completed by September 1, 2014.

Final push to clear the runway
- it is so quiet with most of the runway cleared and the students no longer coming and going to the Stocking Hall classrooms (124 and 204). Most of the labs, offices, meeting rooms and classrooms in the runway have been cleared. We've filled 2 1/2 large dumpsters with trash and 1 large dumpster with old metal desks and filing cabinets that will be recycled. Items up for grabs will be placed in room 178.
November 4, 2010
- The metal recycling dumpster arrived early Wednesday morning. All unclaimed metal furniture will be placed in the dumpster for recycling.
- Environmental Health and Safety has finished removing unwanted chemicals in the labs located in the runway. An entire bench was filled with 125 unwanted chemicals
- Room 125 Stocking Hall is now open for anyone to go through and find possible treasures (or used furniture and lab supplies)
- Room 178 has become a warehouse of used furniture. A special thanks to Tom Burke, CALS movers and many others who have lent a hand cleaning out the runway labs.
October 21, 2010
We are happy to say that Dave Bandler, Ted Bronsnick and the CALS movers have been able to reduce the amount of items needing to be dumped in the landfill!
- Dave Bandler has coordinated the donation of seven old and very heavy Jamison cooler doors to Tech Works Museum. Tech Works Museum's web site can be found at http://ctandi.org/tech%20museum.html
- Ted Bronsnick has worked to bring in Significant Elements (http://www.significantelements.org/) to remove old furniture and cabinets from various labs. Significant Elements is a non-profit organization that is part of Historic Ithaca
- CALS movers have identified many single sided steal case desks that will be used by other departments within CALS.
October 7, 2010
- The moves to Morrison Hall have gone well. At this point, most of the labs that were once in the Stocking Hall runway have been moved to Morrison. Labs that have moved include Rizvi, Regenstein, Liu, and Mulvaney.
- An Open House will be scheduled in Morrison for all to come and view the new space that has been created for Food Science.
